LETTER FROM THE CEO
2020 was an extraordinary year where the resilience and generosity of Securian Financial employees were on full display. These characteristics reflect a collective commitment to our values and purpose, which naturally extends to our corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Our purpose — helping build secure tomorrows
— drives our CSR efforts and had an especially profound impact on the decisions we made related to the pandemic. Our values and purpose also inspired the stand we’ve taken for social justice
in the wake of George Floyd’s killing and our commitment to be part of the solution through education.
Our community efforts went far beyond writing
a check. We donated 30,000 N95 masks to
frontline workers. We abated rent for the 15 retail businesses and nonprofits on our campus. And our Foundation’s grant-making parameters now require applicants to share our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
We understand the positive impact we can make for underrepresented populations by diversifying our supplier base. We enhanced our supplier diversity program in 2020 by increasing our diverse spend and continuing to engage with the supplier community through industry memberships.
On a global scale, we continued our involvement in the Accounting for Sustainability Project (A4S) and signed the Net Zero Statement of Support to do our part in transitioning to a net zero emissions world.
And, we implemented many programs to take care
of the people who counted on us during a trying
year, including our employees. Diversity and inclusion conversations, new benefits related to COVID-19 and commitments to diverse hiring expressed our steadfast respect and care for our Securian Financial family.
These are just a few examples of how we lived our purpose in 2020. This Corporate Social Responsibility Report provides greater insight to how we put our purpose and values into action each day.
