Diversity, equity and inclusion
We’re prioritizing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) to be a better company and to help all employees feel confident bringing their full selves to work. The pain and suffering people and communities of color experienced in 2020 illuminated the immediate need to learn from one another and unite on a better path forward. Through education and workforce development, we’re committed to fostering a culture where every voice is valued and heard.
I’m proud that Securian Financial quickly recognized the need for renewed action
in our country regarding
racial justice in the wake of George Floyd’s killing. The So You Want to Talk About Race discussion circle has been a great way to open dialogue amongst employees and an important step in improving diversity, inclusion and equity within our own corporate community. I’m thankful that Securian is providing some tools for each of us to try to make inroads into what can be very daunting subject matter.”

  Education and conversation
Our employee education has a five-point focus on awareness, equity, inclusion, allyship and cultural competence.
650+ employees participated in book discussion groups for So You Want
to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo, Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg and How Women Rise by Sally Helgesen and Marshall Goldsmith.
600 employees joined 10 listening sessions after George Floyd’s death to grieve, talk, listen and unite.
We offered a variety of DEI
learning events, including a “Day of Understanding: Gender Bias” for more than 300 employees and Mental Health Awareness month seminars.
The DEI learning series on our intranet educated employees on social justice and race-driven topics and provided resources for additional awareness.
